11-year-old stabs dad to death for beating mom'

CEBU CITY, Philippines–An 11-year-old girl stabbed her father dead Sunday night after she saw him hitting her mother on the head and cutting her leg with a hacksaw inside their house in Argao town, 58 km south of this city, the authorities said.
The 38-year-old father was found dead on a vacant grassy lot a few minutes after he ran away from his daughter who stabbed him in the chest at about 11 p.m. inside their house in Barangay Canbanua, Argao.
The police took custody of the girl who was later turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, said Insp. Alan Batobalunos, Argao police chief.
Batobalunos said the girl didn’t know that she killed her father. “Napatay nako si Papa ma? Mapriso ko (I killed papa, ma? Would I go to jail?” Batobalunos quoted the girl as asking her mother.
But he added the girl didn’t cry but instead told the police that they would not know what would happen to her and her two sisters if their mother was killed.
Their neighbor Miguel Tapales said they heard the couple arguing past 11 p.m. on Sunday. He said he just ignored it because they thought it was just one of the couple’s usual fights.
After several minutes, Tapales said the 11-year–old girl went to their house and asked for help.
“She asked for help because she feared that her father might come back and kill them. She said she stabbed her father after she saw that her father was cutting her mother’s leg with a hacksaw,” said Tapales in Cebuano.
Her mother was later brought to Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Argao and was released on Monday morning.
Perlita Buenaflor, another neighbor said they would always hear the couple quarreling. On Friday, the husband destroyed the wall of their house in the middle of the fight.
Buenaflor said the arguments were triggered by jealousy because the victim was allegedly a womanizer.
Batobalunos and the couple’s neighbors said the victim was fired from his job as a driver of a Department of Environment and Natural Resources personnel after he had an affair with a married officemate.
He then worked at the Office of the Mayor in Argao but lost his job again when he had a fling with another officemate.
Aside from the 11-year-old girl, the couple has two other daughters–a 13-year-old Grade 6 pupil and a two-month old infant.

  1. Good for the girl. If the dad was attacking her mother with a hacksaw he deserved what he got. I dont think the 11yr old girl really knew what she was doing but she most likely saved her mothers life and therefore I do not think the girl should be out in jail she was protecting her mother.

  2. This girl is awesoome. I can't decide if I'm happier she killed her father or if I'm happier that she showed no remorse after it. In terms of law, she killed in the defense of another, and I don't think any court would punish her for that. Would this be defined as a crime of passion? I don't know how they would term this, but I don't think she will be punished for anything.

  3. I think what the girl did was justified since she stopped someone from maiming another person. In that situation, the only thing she could do was fight off her father for the safety of her mother, so I don't think she should be prosecuted whatsoever.

  4. To have an 11 year old stab her dad to death is crazy. Good for the girl because she stuck up for her mom and her family. I want to know if they punish her.

  5. I think the girl needs to be monitored for a long time now, not only for her own safety, but also for the safety of others. No matter what the situation, no 11-year-old should be considering stabbing anyone let alone their parent. I don't think it was wrong of her, however. Sawing his wifes leg? That's torture.

  6. Its hard to imagine ever being in a situation like this. I think the girl was completely just in protecting her mom. She didnt mean to commit murder but she would do everything she could in order to protect her mom and sisters. The dad couldn't honestly think that he could get away with taking a hacksaw to his wifes leg, in a way he deserves what he got.

  7. Good for her. She had a reason to stab her father for the safety of her mother. I really hope nothing bad happens to her. This dad sounds like a psycho, especially since he was cutting the mom with a hacksaw.....

  8. I think the girl's actions can be justified because it was out of self defense. Also, the girl's intend wasn't to kill her father but to protect her mother. The girl stated that the police wouldn't know what would happen to her two sisters if her mother died. It seems as if the girl took matters into her own hands because nothing else was working to protect herself or her family against her abusive father, and nobody else was helping her.

  9. I don't think the girl should be punished for what she did. Her father obviously had something wrong with him if he was sawing his wife's leg off. Also I don't think the girls intent was to kill her father. I think I was more of protection for her, her sisters, and her mother.

  10. I understand why the girl killed her father. Her father was a terrible person and he was exposing way too much violence to his kids. Not only did he expose too much violence to his kids but, he started to harm the kids mom. The kids in this household are used to violence and then they see their dad hurting their mom so their natural reaction would be to attack their dad violently. Although I understand why she killed her father, it was not the right thing to do because killing and violence is wrong.

  11. I don't think the girl should be put into custody for this. I think she was right for what she did. She was morally justified for the wrong her father was doing to the family. In my eyes, she did the right thing.

  12. GIven the girl's age and the extreme circumstances, I do not believe that she should be put into any type od custody. At the age of 11, what else was she to do? The father was performing actions that could potentially kill the mother, and in that sort of "heat of passion" type situation, I think that the girl's actions were completely warranted.

  13. This is a really tough situation. Obviously killing is wrong; however, this girl felt endangered by her father and was scared for her mother and sister's life. I would not charge her for this because she was really trying to do the right thing; she was not acting out of a evil impulse. She was merely protecting herself and her family.

  14. Killing is wrong but if I was the girl, I woul do it too. The father, I would say, deserved some type of beating. I hope the girl doesnt go to jail although it is illegal and morally wrong. Her intention was not to kill him though, so I would argue she is justifiable.

  15. This girl is completely justified in killing her father. He was obviously a disgusting excuse for a human being and deserved what came for him. I would guess that the heaviest conviction that could be legitimately prosecuted with would be manslaughter. She didn't mean to kill him, only to stop him from killing her and her mother.

  16. I have to side with the daughter in this situation. In the spur of the moment she probably reacted on impulse and didn't really know what she was doing. If nothing would have happened thought, her mom probably would have died. Good for the girl, she made the right desicion in stepping in andsaged her moms life from being killed with a hacksaw

  17. I feel the little girl was wrong for killing someone but I understand that the girl was only trying to protect her family from her father. The girl know that if anything happened to her mother she and he sisters wouldn't be taken care of very well, and she wouldn't stand there and let him rip apart the family.

  18. I feel that the girl is completely justified in her actions. She saw a situation occuring in which her father was cutting her mother with a hacksaw and she made a gut reaction. She did what she felt at the time to be the best thing which was to try to defend her defenseless mother. I support this girl.

  19. Although the father was completely wrong for beating his wife, I do not think the daughter had any right to kill her dad. I believe that no one ever has the right to kill another person unless it is in declared warfare. The little girl's emotions got the best of her in this situation.

  20. That girl was justified. First of all she did not intend to kill. She was in defense of her mom. Second, HE WAS CUTTING HER MOMS LEG WITH A HACKSAW! He deserved to be punished. She didn't mean to kill him, even though it was deserved.

  21. The Dad has no right to beat his wife. No one should ever abuse their wife. The daughter has no right to kill her father even though her father abused his wife. The daughter is going to go to jail for a really long time because of this

  23. This story is crazy. First of all, an 11 year old stabbed her father, and had the right to do it. This father was attempting to cut off the leg of her mother, so he fully deserved a knife to the chest. She was protecting her mother and the rest of her family from the terror of her father. She was giving up her own safety to protect her family, it was quite heroic.

  26. For the most part, I am completely against murder. In this specific situation I can say that I understand. If someone ever tried to harm my mother, I would severely hurt them. I still believe that she should be charged of something, but something very light. She obviously should be kept watched on at all times until she is clearly recovered. - Ben Paulson

  27. No matter what I think that no one deserves to be killed because I think that everyone deserves the right to be forgiven by God before dying so they have a chance of going to heaven. But, this man obviously has no respect for life himself as described in this article so grusomly. If I was the child, I would definitley tried to stop him by all means and if I have to then I'd kill, but I think everyone deserves the right to life.

  28. 5. Thou shall not kill. This is the fifth commandment in hte Ten commandments. However, I believe that this eleven year old deserved to kill her father because he was going to kill his family anyways. The eleven year old not only saved her life but her mother and two sisters as well. The father was not respecting life and was physically abusing his family.
